What to wear this year

Improving the production technology of artificial materials led to the fact that not only the front and back glass of the watch but also the sides and case parts with a bezel are made of sapphire glass. This allows you to examine in detail the details of the mechanism and observe the process of its progress, to consider the meticulous finishing of parts and assemblies.

This year, HYT H2O “TIME IS FLUID” with liquid display and the Dual Time Resonance Sapphire model from Armin Strom showed off their transparent cases.

Skeletonized dials

Skeletonized dials

Subtle work, demonstrating the professional finish and visibility of the mechanism at any glance at the watch – that’s what watches and chronographs with a skeletonized dial appreciate. It can be opened over the entire surface, or partially, depending on the ideas of designers.

In Geneva, the skeletons were shown by Greubel Forsey – Balancier Contemporain and DeWitt – Academia Hour Planet.

Provocation

Provocation

Extravagant and provocative dial decor is one of the main watch trends. Connoisseurs of watches and especially collectors are no longer locked in the framework of traditional design and classic watch complications. They want to replenish their collections with memorable and impressive models.

The Ulysse Nardin manufactory went to the SIHH-2019 to meet the lovers of the “sharp little one.” She showed a unique project: a series of watches, the design of the dials of which is formed into an erotic comic from 10 episodes.

Car theme

Many models of watches are not only designed for racers and motorists, but also the names refer to motor racing. Their distinctive feature is the use of traditional materials for the automotive industry: carbon fiber, rubber, as well as parts that mimic car parts, such as the grille or wheel disks.

At the exhibition, there were several such watches, but perhaps the most striking were the Roger Dubuis Excalibur Huracan, dedicated to the same-name Lamborghini supercars.

Retro military

Retro military

Retro style, allusions to historical models and the desire to be inspired by their heritage are not the first year for watch brands. At SIHH-2019, the collection of watches inspired by aviation aesthetics, IWC Pilot’s Watches, shown by the Swiss manufacturer IWC Schaffhausen, was in the center of attention of experts and the public. The creators were inspired by the history of the restored World War II motor plane Silver Spitfire, in which two British pilots in the summer of 2019 are going to make a round-the-world flight.

The striking features of retro-military are the use of historical materials like bronze in the case design, dark green and ecru shade for dials, large hour marks, and Arabic numerals, thick cowhide straps or thick aviation slings.

Classic

Classic

A discreet and elegant classic watch will always be in fashion. Their distinctive feature is a laconic design, dials of reserved colors, Roman numerals or narrow hour markers. As a rule, these are three-arrows with or without date aperture. Sometimes watchmakers add classic complications: the moon phase indicator, tourbillon, annual or perpetual calendar.

A fresh interpretation of the classics was proposed in Geneva by the watch manufactory Audemars Piguet. In the new collection of Code 11.59. There is both strict three arrows, and the flagship fully skeletonized model with the Tourbillon Openworked tourbillon.

Plots on the dial

Plots on the dial

Representatives of the animal world on the clock draw for a long time. Periodically, this motive gets into trends. On the SIHH-2019 animals on the clock showed a few brands. Thus, Vacheron Constantin manufactory in its “piece” collection line Les Cabinotiers presented to the public a lion, a tiger, a panda, a snake, an eagle, made on dials in various techniques: from micro-sculpture to painting on enamel and wooden marquetry. And Hermes showed Arceau Awooooo watch with a wolf howling at the moon.
