The cooperation of Swiss watchmakers and the German WEC (World Endurance Championship) endurance race began in 2014. WEC – the championship, the stages of which are the race “24 hours of Le Mans” and “1000 miles of Sebring”. Audi participates and regularly wins in all declared categories.

The union of the two brands perfectly reflects the main concept of endurance racing: combining innovation, powerful performance and maximum efficiency. It is these cars that create in Audi and wristwatch – in Oris.

Automotive-hour collaboration

Model Oris 778-7661-77-84LS is dedicated to the supercar Audi R18 e-Tron Quattro, its silhouette engraved on the back cover. This precision (high-precision) mechanics and modern materials, similar to those used in motorsport and the space industry.

The watch is released in a limited edition, only 2000 copies, so fans of the brand, speed, motorsport and high technologies should hurry with the decision.

Athletic design of the dial

Black on black with cherry strokes is the main theme of the dial design. The matte disk is covered with concentric circles of grinding, it looks noble. The volume hour markers are filled with a luminescent, thanks to innovative techniques they glow bright green.

Attention is drawn to the non-standard second’s scale of the current time, located at nine o’clock. It is made in the form of a red ruler, smoothly appearing and again leaving under the dial.

High-Speed Timing

High-Speed Timing

The cant of the dial is strewn with small strokes – these are seconds marks. For the stopwatch, the central arrow responds, it does this with an accuracy of 1/4 second.

The scale of the tachometer is marked along the lateral canopy as it rises. This is the most “automotive” complication, allowing to measure the average speed of the traveling machine. The maximum speed of the Audi R18 is about 330 km / h, so the scale is marked with a margin of up to 400 km / h.

Ergonomics of the titanium case

The ergonomic architecture of the Artix body, the base for Oris Audi Sport, is generally good. The matte finish externally fits well with the theme of motorsport. Virtually absolute black color is achieved using the technology DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) – Spraying in a vacuum of carbon particles. Hypoallergenic ultra-light and strong titanium of the highest grade is chosen as the material of the body, which, in principle, is customary for premium Oris rulers.

Ceramics and sapphire – high strength and scratch resistance

High-Speed Timing

Bezel with an additional time scale of 60 engraved divisions is made of strong ceramics. This material is practically not subject to scratches and will allow for a long time to preserve the original appearance of the watch. The same role will play a sapphire crystal, known for its resistance to scratches. It has an anti-reflective coating on it – an ideal reading of information is guaranteed in all weathers.

Tuning mechanism

The clock was tuned in the form of a 10-minute timer for the preliminary countdown – all as in the big races. And of course the company’s red self-winding rotor.

The heart of the watch is a mechanical caliber Oris 778, based on the Sellita 500 (it is also a clone Valjoux 7750). Modified by the masters of the manufactory, it is re-assembled inside the walls of the factory in Hölstein.

From the basic functionality of the stopwatch, only the central second hand and one indicator for 30 minutes are left. The mechanism is equipped with a simple calendar with an indication of the date and the day of the week because there is enough room on the spacious dial. You might also read:
